WebexOne is Webex’s flagship annual event. In 2022, it remained fully virtual, continuing to adapt to the realities of hybrid work. Centered on the theme “Beyond,” the event invited attendees to imagine new possibilities for connection and collaboration.
For the first time, the entire event was produced in-house. With no agency support and limited resources, our team was responsible for everything—from visual identity and motion graphics to platform assets and promotional content. Despite the constraints, we delivered a cohesive, high-impact experience that met the creative standard of previous years while setting a new bar for internal collaboration.
Challenge
Tight timelines and lean resources
Design systems and assets had to be created quickly and scaled efficiently across multiple internal teams.
Theme came after visuals
We began with visual exploration first, which ultimately influenced and inspired the final event theme: Beyond.
No external agency
Our internal team led the entire campaign, from strategy and concept to execution, across brand, motion, and marketing.
Solution
We led with design from day one. By starting creative exploration early, we helped shape the event’s narrative and set the tone for all brand expression. A clean, typography-forward direction inspired the final theme, Beyond, flipping the typical process of messaging before visuals.
The identity system was designed for flexibility and motion, featuring layered 3D elements, expressive gradients, and dynamic layouts. It scaled seamlessly across digital touchpoints, keynote graphics, stage visuals, and the virtual event platform. Through close cross-functional collaboration, we delivered a cohesive, high-impact experience from start to finish.
MY PROCESS
Understand & Define
-
Understanding User Needs
Even without formal user testing, I considered the expectations of a hybrid, global audience: the need for clarity, energy, and executive polish. I focused on creating a visual system that felt bold yet accessible—designed for fast-paced consumption across web, social, and stage.
-
Contextual Insights
While we didn’t run surveys or collect hard data, I leaned on knowledge from past Webex events and observed how our audience typically engaged with content—quick glances, mobile-first views, and short attention spans. These patterns shaped my use of scale, contrast, and motion readiness.
-
Competitive Inspiration
I studied leading design systems and event identities from brands like Adobe MAX and Figma Config. I looked closely at how typography and layout could drive personality, and explored how to push the Webex brand beyond static guidelines—making it feel dynamic, expressive, and global.
-
Collaborative Workshops
I worked closely with our art director to explore multiple directions, then partnered with motion designers and fellow creatives to bring the system to life. From first concepts to stage animations, we aligned across disciplines to build a cohesive, high-impact experience.
MY PROCESS
Explore & Iterate
Early design explorations that helped shape the event’s tone, visual direction, and ultimately inspired the Beyond theme. These initial concepts set the foundation for motion, layout, and storytelling.
MY PROCESS
Finalize & Implement
A unified identity system boosted stakeholder confidence, reduced design support tickets, and delivered over 100 assets on time—ensuring consistency across every customer touchpoint.

Reflection
WebexOne 2022 was a clear example of what strong creative direction and cross-functional alignment can achieve—especially under pressure. By leading with design, we didn’t just support the event; we shaped its identity, voice, and experience. It remains one of the most rewarding and collaborative projects I’ve worked on.
